Details University of Utah - Faculty Position in AI for Image Analysis and Computer Vision Location: Salt Lake City, UTStart Date: January 1, 2026Rank: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor (Tenure-Track or Tenured)Job Posting: PRN01357CF The Kahlert School of Computing in the Price College of Engineering and the Scientific Computing and Imaging (SCI) Institute at the University of Utah invite applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in Artificial Intelligence (AI) with a focus on Image Analysis and Computer Vision.Position Overview This role is part of a strategic expansion in AI, image analysis, and data science at both the Kahlert School and the SCI Institute. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment that supports collaborative work across foundational computing and applied domains such as biomedical computing, computational medicine, and scientific discovery. The new faculty member will contribute to the SCI Institute's internationally recognized strengths in visualization, image/data analysis, and scientific computing, while also engaging with the Kahlert School's collaborative research culture. The position aims to foster AI-driven innovation in imaging applications and promote partnerships across the university and with external collaborators.Candidate Profile We seek a visionary researcher with a strong record in AI-driven image analysis, computer vision, and computational imaging. Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
A robust research program and history of extramural funding
High-impact publications in AI and imaging sciences
Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration
Contributions to foundational and applied AI methodologies Research areas of interest include (but are not limited to):
Machine learning for image analysis
Multimodal AI integrating imaging and other data types
Physics-aware and hybrid modeling
Scalable AI for high-dimensional visual data
Trustworthy AI for image-based decision-making
Generative models for image understanding and synthesisApplication Requirements Applicants must hold a PhD in computer science or a related field. Required materials include: 1. Curriculum Vitae 2. Cover Letter(1-2 pages) outlining experience and leadership 3. Research Statement(3-4 pages) detailing vision and alignment with the Kahlert School and SCI Institute 4. Teaching Statement(1-2 pages) highlighting their approach to instruction and mentorship, including strategies for engaging a diverse student body in computing and interdisciplinary research. Additionally, candidates should discuss their commitment to fostering a welcoming academic environment, including past or planned efforts to broaden participation in computing and scientific research. 5.
