    As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks an Assistant/Associate or full Professor of Biochemistry for the Osteopathic medical students and master biomedical science students at Marian University Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-WCOM) to promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by providing instruction that will allow learners to acquire a competence with the relationship of normal processes of various systems of the human body, and the integration and regulations of the systems in health an d disease. Specifically, this position will provide instruction in the fundamental concepts and facts related to the biochemistry and molecular biology of human homeostasis and disease, as well as the application to biochemical processes to human health. This individual will serve as a member of a team of biochemistry faculty in the planning and delivery of relevant content in a multi-discipline, systems-based medical curriculum.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University (MU) by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
    Participating in the development, delivery, evaluation, and improvement of the curriculum
    Directing learning b students in systems courses where biochemistry content is presented
    Providing sufficient understanding of concepts and facts related to biochemistry in normal and abnormal states allow students to demonstrate the competencies embodied in the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) COMLEX-USA Level 1 examination, and to proceed into the clinical rotations of the 3rd and 4th years of medical school
    Assuming an appropriate share of the discipline-related teaching and service responsibilities inherent to the MU-WCOM curriculum
    Provide leadership in matters of curriculum and curriculum evaluation
    The Assistant/Associate Professor of Biochemistry demonstrates excellence in scholarly activity through the establishment of a research program that involves students and that leads to the creation and dissemination of new knowledge
    The Assistant/Associate Professor of Biochemistry provides excellence in service to the University and community through involvement and leadership on committees and professional societies, and by providing mentorship to students

    Required Qualifications:
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.     Applicant must hold a PhD in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or an equivalent terminal degree.
    Ideal candidates have 1-5 years of teaching experience after receiving their terminal degree, preferably at a DO or MD medical school. Teaching experience should include biochemistry (preferably in large team-taught medical-level courses); an ability to teach nutritional biochemistry is considered an asset.
    Candidates must have a proven record of scholarly activity (e.g., research publications, grants) consistent with the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
    Essential Functions:
    Work hours necessary to perform job requirements satisfactorily on a regular basis. Manage absence from work in
    responsible manner to ensure service to clients, work teams, and coworkers. Comply with Marian University policies
    and practices and seeking clarification of them when necessary.

    close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
