  • Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in Ecology
The Asian School of the Environment
    Nanyang Technological University, (NTU Singapore)

The Asian School of the Environment (ASE, https://www.ntu.edu.sg/ase) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore seeks to appoint several Assistant Professors (tenure track) in tropical ecology. We broadly welcome applications across all areas of tropical ecology. This can include, but is not limited to, forest ecology, marine ecology, biodiversity research, conservation ecology, soil ecology, or plant or animal ecology.

Successful candidates should demonstrate the potential to build a world-class research programme and a commitment to education and mentorship of students, and to meaningfully contribute to our ambitions to have societal and environmental impact in Singapore and the surrounding region. They will teach within ASE at both undergraduate and at postgraduate levels. We are particularly interested in candidates who would be interested in teaching introductory-level ecology courses, including statistics.

Applicants must have a PhD in ecology, environmental biology, environmental science, geography, marine science, or in a related field, and show evidence of impactful, independent research in the field of ecology. We will consider a candidate’s past outputs, current research programme, likelihood to obtain future funding support, and potential and enthusiasm to develop their own research leadership in tropical ecology. Past research experience in tropical environments is essential.

ASE is a diverse, interdisciplinary school that integrates geoscience, ecology, and social science in order to examine environmental challenges in Asia and globally. ASE collaborates closely with the Earth Observatory of Singapore, and other schools in NTU’s College of Science, including the School of Biological Sciences. Beyond NTU, ASE researchers can access facilities at the St. John’s Island National Marine Laboratory and the Smithsonian ForestGeo plot in Singapore’s Bukit Timah nature reserve. ASE has state-of-the-art teaching facilities and research laboratories, including experimental growth chambers, chemical and genetic analysis facilities, and general-purpose laboratories.

ASE seeks a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all and recruit on the basis of merit, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status and family responsibilities, or disability.

Emoluments and General Terms & Conditions of Service
The commencing salary is competitive and will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. The University offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package.

    Application Procedure
Applications will be reviewed and shortlisted on an ongoing basis until the positions are filled. Candidates are invited to submit their application packages (cover letter, full CV, research and teaching statements, names and contact details of three referees) through the NTU Career Portal, by clicking the 'APPLY' button.

All applications and materials submitted will be held in strict confidence.
