The Department of Computer Science (in Portuguese Departamento de Ciência da Computação – DCC) was established in 1976 and is responsible for the undergraduate courses in Computer Science and Information Systems and the graduate program in Computer Science. Currently, there are 60+ faculty members involved in research activities in the graduate program. Most of them obtained their PhD degrees abroad from institutions in the USA (e.g., Stanford, CMU, University of California, Princeton, UPenn, Wisconsin, Maryland, Rochester, etc), Canada (UBC, Waterloo), England (e.g., Oxford, Southampton, etc), and France. Currently, the department has more than 800 undergraduate and 250 graduate students. According to an annual evaluation performed by the Brazilian Ministry of Education, our undergraduate Computer Science program received the highest score in Brazil, and our graduate program in Computer Science is among the top three in the country.
