Associate Professor with Tenure

The Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics (APAM) at Columbia University’s Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science in New York City invites applications for one tenured faculty position at the associate professor level starting in 2018 in the core area of medical physics. Prior to starting his/her duties, the applicant will be expected to complete the tenure process of Columbia University.

This successful candidate will be a part of the Columbia University Magnetic Resonance Research center and also serve as the co-Director of the Medical Physics Program in the Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics, taking the overall responsibility for further developing research and educational activities of this program.

The research center component of this position will address cross-disciplinary research objectives within Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging physics and engineering. The candidate is expected to contribute to the MR Research located at the Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute (ZMBBI) of Columbia University and collaborate with investigators of the Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC). The appointee will have an appointment with APAM faculty and be a member of ZMBBI.

As the co-director of the Medical Physics Program, the candidate will be expected to contribute to the enhancement of the existing medical physics M.S. program and the establishment of a new graduate medical physics Ph.D. program and research track. This will complement the strong clinical track already in place. Candidates will also teach two classes per year in the Medical Physics program of APAM.

Associate Professors at Columbia are academic officers holding the doctorate or its professional equivalent who have demonstrated scholarly and teaching ability and show great promise of attaining distinction in their fields of specialization.

Candidates are sought with an outstanding record of research accomplishments and the potential for future exceptional research. Demonstrated commitment to high-quality teaching and mentoring is essential.
