We have an open position for one excellent PhD student / postdoc to develop a new theoretical and computational tool for Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS) through complex nanostructures.

The project combines concepts from ongoing collaboration of the Kaminer group at the Technion with MIT, published in multiple papers (e.g., Science 353, 263 (2016); Nature Photonics 10, 46 (2016)). Its goal is to find the ultimate maximum of photon emission and energy loss from free electrons. The work will help translate these theoretical findings to the first experimental proof-of-concept inside an electron microscope (using EELS).
The successful candidate will perform state-of-the-art computations of Green’s tensors using a novel and efficient approach developed by the Sivan group at Ben-Gurion University. He/she will also have an option to join experimental work in the Technion’s new electron microscopes.

Prior experience in numerical modelling (with home-made codes or commercial software) and in-depth knowledge of electromagnetism/optics is required. Experimental skills in electron microscopy or femtosecond lasers is an advantage.

For further details on the project, please email Prof. Ido Kaminer (kaminer@technion.ac.il) and/or Dr. Yonatan Sivan (sivanyon@bgu.ac.il) with a CV and list of publications.
