Director, Advanced Materials and Liquid Crystal Institute

Kent State University is seeking applicants for a full-time position as Director of our Advanced Materials and Liquid Crystal Institute (AMLCI). We are seeking a visionary and enthusiastic researcher in the area of advanced materials who will report directly to the VP for Research and Sponsored Programs and who will foster collaborations among our growing and thriving multi-department/college AMLCI. We will provide the Director with a competitive salary and a generous start-up package as well as financial and administrative support for AMLCI initiatives.

Kent State University has an over fifty-year history of leading research and development in liquid crystals and advanced materials. This legacy is continued and strengthened by faculty from numerous colleges across the university system. The AMLCI has strengths in multiple areas, including liquid crystals, nanomaterials, organic electronics, fuel cells, and the development of intelligently-designed advanced materials that respond to the environment.  Substantial new investments are being made to facilitate the growth of the AMLCI. Plans include the addition of several new faculty and investing significant funds towards equipment and facilities.

The successful candidate will possess an exemplary record of research in areas relevant to advanced materials and a desire to engage broadly with others in the field and to build relationships within and beyond Kent State. The Director will maintain an established extramurally funded research program, while leading, fostering and engaging in collaborative research. The Director will also hold the faculty rank of Professor with tenure in the appropriate department.

To apply, send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a brief vision statement about the future of the materials science research field, a 2-page personal research statement, and names and contact information of 3 references to: mvandul@kent.edu. Questions regarding the position can be directed to the Chair of the Search Committee, Manfred H. M. van Dulmen, Associate Dean & Professor (mvandul@kent.edu). Review of applications will begin January 15th 2019 and continue until the position is filled.

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. Strengthening diversity is a priority and a key tenet of Kent State University’s strategic roadmap (http://strategicroadmap.kent.edu/)
