Departmental Overview

The Silver Lab's research seeks to determine the biogeochemical effects of climate change and human impacts on the environment, and the potential for mitigating these effects. Our current research program has three primary foci: (1) the impacts of deforestation, reforestation, grazing, and other land-use practices on carbon losses, carbon sequestration, and biogeochemical cycling, (2) retention and loss of carbon and nitrogen under variable redox conditions and (3) the impacts of water and agricultural management on greenhouse gas emissions.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in collecting soil and water samples; collect and label soil, plant material, and trace gases in the field.
  • Assist graduate students and postdocs with sample processing in the lab.
  • Collect and store data as directed.


Required Qualifications
  • Able to operate basic field equipment.
  • Able to perform routine, repetitive functions while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Able to follow direction and complete tasks with limited supervision.
  • Able to communicate information in writing and verbally and to keep accurate records of work.
  • Prior fieldwork experience with soil, plant and gas collection.
  • Experience collecting and processing samples.


Education/Training:
  • Graduation from college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences and one year of laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Salary & Benefits

This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience.

This is a part-time, 20-hours per week, career position.
