Microwave assisted organic synthesis, Bioinorganic, chemical sensors, spectroscopy, photochemistry, and environmental chemistry. The research focus of the Abebe lab is to design, synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of fluorescent small organic molecules for sensing and recognition of various transition or other toxic metal ions. The group has experience with both fluorescent small molecule sensors and polymeric sensors.
