Major Cameron Marlow’s research interest focuses on insect-bacteria symbiosis. Specifically, he is interested in using microbial infectious agents to attempt symbiotic relationships. To do this, his research uses a recently discovered bacterium of the Sodalis genus, S. praecaptivus, that has a phylogenetic relation to several other insect symbionts. MAJ Marlow’s lab uses various strains of S. praecaptivus to infect the common fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster and observes if any pathway for symbiosis exists between these two organisms.
