Our group develops new chemical detection/characterization methods. This entails fundamental understanding of physico-chemical processes and their manipulation for analytical purposes. Our fundamental studies are currently focused on gas-phase ion generation mechanisms and gaseous ion reactions. We use mass spectrometry as the primary characterization method in these studies. In parallel, we develop new mass spectrometric techniques for applications in biomedical, environmental and trace detection fields. Our specific interests in these areas include high throughput single-cell analysis, gas-liquid interface mass spectrometry, ambient mass spectrometry, and explosive trace detection
