Dr. Cigularov's scholarly work reflects his general interest in optimizing individual and organizational performance, safety, and health through developing supportive organizational climates and leadership, as well as effective training programs and communications. Dr. Cigularov conducts research in three broad areas: (1) occupational safety and health (e.g., safety climate, leadership, communication, and performance; error management; mental health) (2) training/program evaluation (e.g., training transfer, evaluation methods), and (3) individual and cross-cultural differences in motivation (e.g., achievement motivation). He has consulted with multiple organizations on needs assessment, development, and evaluation of training programs focusing on organizational climate, communications, and leadership. Dr. Cigularov's needs assessment work has been featured in the 2009 Pulitzer-winning articles of the Las Vegas Sun journalist Alexandra Berzon (currently at Wall Street Journal). Dr. Cigularov is currently a site Principal Investigator for a 5-year grant project (2009-2014) funded by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), which aims to (1) examine the role of organizational climate and leadership in improving safety in construction, and (2) develop, implement, and evaluate a safety leadership program for the construction industry.
