Developing theoretical methods for reliable prediction and description of uncertainty in disordered systems. The main geological application is to prediction of the hydraulic conductivity and related properties (such as air permeability or electrical conductivity) as functions of geologic scale, variance of local values at smaller scales, moisture content for unsaturated flow, etc.
