Dr. Withey's research focuses on the responses of terrestrial vertebrates, especially birds, to anthropogenic change. This includes field studies of behavior, population dynamics, predator-prey interactions, and habitat selection of birds across gradients of urbanization. He takes an interdisciplinary approach to urban ecology by integrating avian ecology with economics, urban planning, and other social sciences to better understand urban systems
