Expertise: I am a physician scientist whose scientific research interests are focused on molecular and biochemical aspects of diabetes. My laboratory is currently focused on three projects.

We study the direct effects of the transcription factor PPARγ on skeletal muscle. We have recently demonstrated that PPARγ directly augments the PDK1:AKT nexus of insulin signaling despite increasing muscle lipid uptake.
We study the effects of high glucose exposure on fetal metabolic development, using an innovative model of intrauterine diabetes exposure accomplished via unilateral infusion of macronutrients into the uterine artery.
We are working collaboratively with other University of Iowa investigators to better understand the pathophysiology of cystic fibrosis related diabetes
