My research career started as an Atmospheric Chemist, working on a variety field campaigns around the world, including an over-winter (18 months) campaign in Antarctica with the British Antarctic Survey. I became interested in Education, Outreach, and Communication while working for the international programme office of the International Polar Year 2007 - 2008, a scientific research programme that involved 50,000 people from over 60 countries. The core of my work was to develop an international outreach programme that centred on the science and scientists, while also fulfilling the various needs of teachers, museums, artists, journalists, policy-makers, indigenous communities, and tourists, among others. The programme had to be accessible in multiple languages and available via a wide variety of media and modes of communication
