Prof. Erickson’s research is focused on the transport of plasma and magnetic flux in Earth’s magnetosphere and the modes of geomagnetic activity (space weather). He was first to elaborate the “pressure-balance inconsistency” problem resulting in magnetospheric substorms. Prof. Erickson was a member of the science team for the development of the Integrated Space Weather Prediction Model (ISM) by Mission Research Corporation and consults for the space environmental modeling team at Rice University. Prof. Erickson is author or co-author of over 45 refereed papers and currently serves as a Principal Investigator for NASA to study magnetospheric transport. Under that grant, Prof. Erickson currently employs and mentors two undergraduate students.
