Tom’s goal is to find quantitative solutions to critical fishery science and management problems.
His primary focus is on identifying sustainable management strategies for 90% of the worlds fisheries which are data-limited. In collaboration with Fisheries and Oceans Canada, over the next three years Tom is investigating data-limited management strategies for Canadian Fisheries. He is also working with the world’s leading seafood eco-labeling body the Marine Stewardship Council to develop certification standards for data-limited fisheries.
Tom also investigates new stock assessment methodologies and is the lead developer of multi-stock spatial models for informing management of Atlantic bluefin tuna.
Tom is grateful for the ongoing support of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NYC), Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Walton Foundation.
