Dr. Weir is primarily interested in energy-related electrochemistry. Specifically, he is interested in making nanoparticles for use as catalysts in different reactions. This research involves characterization of these nanoparticles with a wide variety of analytical instruments, as well as measurements of their catalytic properties.
Dr. Weir is also interested in advancing chemical education through integration. The integration includes active learning principles, merging lab and lecture, and chemistry with related subjects (chemistry/biology, chemistry/geology, chemistry/medicine). Laboratory design and developing quantitative reasoning skills are other areas of interest.
