  • Laser Induced Elemental Analysis: My lab is involved in laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy is an analytical technique that offers the promise of rapid nondestructive analysis of samples in their natural state. Numerous potential applications in bio-sensing, forensics, atmospheric sampling, remote sensing and mine detection are under development. In my laboratory, we are interested in understanding the numerous fundamental physics involved in better utilizing LIBS. We are also applying the technique to the detection of bacteria in food samples. We are mainly interested and studying the effect that laser wavelength has on the detection and discrimination of salmonella in food samples.
