Essential Job Functions

  • Work as part of a team, performs research, writes manuscripts, and presents their findings at local and national professional, scientific and academic conferences
  • Assist in writing progress reports, grant proposals
  • Conducts literature reviews and summarizes findings
  • Complies with and contributes to development and implementation of experimental work plan, laboratory biosafety plan and the Chemical Hygiene Plan for a Radiochemical Lab and Biological Safety Level II facility
  • Collaborates effectively with a multidisciplinary team of scientists on activities and training pertaining to attainment of research objectives within and outside Alcorn State University
  • Participates in all phases of project execution including planning, designing, coordinating, collaborators meeting, conducting literature reviews, data analysis and ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory and protocol guidelines
  • Provides technical presentations and assists other lab members with experiments as required. May mentor research assistants and students
  • Develops methods and optimizes data collection and analysis using analytical methods such as HPGe detector, ITLC/Radio-TLCNMR, FT-IR, UV-Vis, Raman Scattering, TEMSEMDLS/Zeta Potential, HPLC, and ICP-OES
  • Maintains the laboratory work areas including routine maintenance on laboratory equipment as required, cleanliness, and order and organizes required research supplies and records

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or ABD (all but dissertation). 
  • Experience with ICP-OESHPLCNMR, FT-IR, UV-Vis, Raman Scattering, TEMSEMDLS/Zeta potential is a plus
  • Experience with molecular and cellular biology approaches and a strong interest in computational modeling or related disciplines appropriate to the position is a plus. 
  • Formal training in Chemistry and Radiochemistry
  • Experience with handling radioactivity and/or fundamental understanding of ionizing radiation
  • Expertise in synthetic chemistry and nanostructures approaches
  • Experience with gamma counting and/or multichannel analyzers (MCA), and ITLC/Radio-TLC methods
