Position description
The Harris Laboratory seeks a Junior Specialist or Assistant Specialist in the Division of Infectious Diseases & Vaccinology in the School of Public Health and works on the virology, immunology, pathogenesis, and epidemiology of dengue and Zika. Dengue is a major public health problem worldwide caused by a mosquito-borne RNA flavivirus. Zika virus is an emerging virus in the Americas that causes severe neurological sequelae in newborns. Clinical and epidemiological studies are conducted in collaboration with scientists in Nicaragua as long-term partners in a region endemic to arboviruses.
The position we offer is for a Junior Specialist or Assistant Specialist to perform basic research, being in charge of scientific projects directed to understand the immune response to dengue virus and other important flaviviruses.
The job duties for this position will include:
- Assist in research activities such as antibody neutralization assays
- Propagation and purification of the dengue virus
- Maintenance of cell lines in culture
- ELISA experiments and antibody production
- Assist with mouse experiments when indicated
- Data analysis and report preparation
- Support administrative activities
- General lab organization

Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
- Bachelor's degree or international equivalent or enrolled in bachelor's (or international equivalent) program
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent international degree)
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Science, Microbial Biology, Human Biology, or related field
- Excellent organizational skills
- Research experience in laboratory techniques, such as sterile techniques, tissue culture, and BSL2 Laboratory Environment
- Research experience with virology techniques and arboviruses
- Experience in computer and database management skills
- Experience working with laboratory mouse
- Experience with cell culture and virus antibody neutralization assays
- Experience performing quality control (QC) testing and protocol optimizations
