Position Summary

The Meyer Lab in the Department of Psychology at the University at Buffalo is seeking a full-time Research Technician to contribute to ongoing research in behavioral genetics and neuropsychopharmacology. This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in animal models of motivation and addiction and will include extensive training in rodent surgery, behavioral models of neuropsychiatric disorders, and neurobiological methods.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities
    • Conduct animal surgeries, drug administration, and tissue collection
    • Conduct behavioral testing using rat models of learning, memory, and motivation
    • Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures and outcomes
    • Manage inventory and order lab supplies
    • Care for and monitor laboratory animals following laboratory protocols
    • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and workspaces

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education towards a degree in psychology, neuroscience, biology, or a related field
  • At least one year of experience in a laboratory setting
  • Familiarity with rodent handling and behavioral experiments
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Availability for evening and weekend work


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in psychology, neuroscience, biology, or a related field
  • Experience with jugular catheterizations in rats is highly desired
  • Experience with stereotaxic surgery, histology, or neuropharmacology
  • Experience with behavioral software (e.g., Med Associates)
  • Interest in long-term research involvement (minimum 2 years)


Physical Demands

Salary Range
$34,151- $46,000
