A reasonable full-time salary estimate for this position is $76,700 - $97,600.

Position description

The Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, seeks applicants for an Assistant Project Scientist position that is focused on synthetic organic chemistry and chemical biology.

The successful candidate will conduct research directed by Professor Thomas Maimone, and will lead research projects involving the synthesis of complex terpene natural products as well as designed biological probes for medicinal chemistry applications. Additional research areas that the candidate may work in may include, but will not be limited to, synthetic methodology and covalent drug discovery. The appointee shall demonstrate contributions in these areas of research, to include publication of relevant experimentation and findings that have been peer-reviewed to ensure quality, rigor, and originality.

The successful candidate will maintain expertise and accomplishment in the total synthesis of complex terpene natural products and in synthetic organic chemistry.

The successful candidate will be expected to generate results, draft research progress reports and manuscripts, and participate in academic-industry collaborative projects.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
PhD (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in a PhD (or equivalent international degree) program.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

  • PhD (or equivalent international degree) in Organic Chemistry
  • One year of postdoctoral research experience

Preferred qualifications

  • PhD in Organic Chemistry
  • 4 years of postdoctoral research experience
  • 6+ years experience in total synthesis of natural products and medicine synthesis research
  • A minimum of 1 manuscript published in a non-profit scholarly journal
  • Demonstrated experience in the synthesis of complex terpenes
