The Laboratory for Equine and Comparative Orthopedic Research (LECOR) has openings for graduate research assistants working toward the PhD degree with a concentration in regenerative medicine. The focus of the laboratory is comparative, translational stem cell research for treatment of pathology associated with aging, trauma, or development. Evaluation techniques include cellular molecular, genetic (RNA and DNA) and compositional analysis, histology, cell culture, biomechanical testing, kinetics, and kinematics. Additionally, design and implementation of medical devices is a key function in the laboratory.

As a graduate research assistant , you must enroll and remain a full-time student during the semesters you are supported by an assistantship. Full-time enrollment in the Graduate School is 9 hours in the fall and spring semesters (with 6 hours for graduate credit), and 6 hours in the summer term (with 3 hours for graduate credit). Graduate research assistants who are appointed by October 1 (for fall semester), by March 1 (for spring semester), or by the first day of the second summer session are considered state residents for fee purposes only. Thus, graduate research assistants who hold 10 hours per week (or more) assistantships will receive a non-resident fee waiver, if applicable.

In addition, graduate research assistants who are enrolled full-time and appointed at 50% effort (20 hours per week) will receive a tuition exemption and a waiver or exemption of the following fees: Dedicated Fees, Technology Fee, Building Use Fee, Student Excellence Fee, Academic Excellence Fee, and Operational Fee, as defined in PM-43 Student Fees. For information on current tuition and fee schedules, visit the Budget & Planning website at lsu.edu/bgtplan/Tuition-Fees.

Acceptance as a graduate student at Louisiana State University in the department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences is required.
