We invite applications for two postdoctoral positions at #HBKU. The project is interdisciplinary and is funded by #QRDI and involves collaboration with multiple institutes.
Position 1: Resilience of Physical Infrastructure
This position will address infrastructure resilience with a focus on transportation, water, and power supply networks and their interdependencies under climate change impacts.
Key Responsibilities:
1-Conduct high-impact research on infrastructure vulnerabilities and resilience.
2-Engage with interdisciplinary teams to develop strategies for mitigating risks associated with climate change and other disruptions.
3-Develop and design tools, codes, optimization models, and new research methodologies to advance project objectives.
4-Communicate research findings in academic journals and appropriate venues.
Requirements:
1-Ph.D. in a field related to physical infrastructure.
2-Experience in resilience analysis and infrastructure vulnerability assessments
3-Knowledge of qualitative research methods and tools (e.g., surveys, questionnaires, focus groups, stakeholder mapping).
4-Quantitative skills in modeling, simulation, and network analysis, and proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, R)
5-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Position 2: Public Policies and Governance of Infrastructure Resilience
This position focuses on building resilience at both the infrastructure and national levels through public policies and enhanced governance. The role requires expertise in policy innovation and development to address resilience-building across various societal sectors by engaging multiple stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
1-Conduct to high-impact research on resilience in the State of Qatar from a policy and governance perspective, focusing on vulnerabilities among various stakeholders of infrastructure along with their respective governing bodies.
2-Engage with interdisciplinary teams to develop strategies for mitigating risks associated with climate change and other disruptions.
3-Communicate research findings in academic journals and appropriate venues and support an edited book project.
Requirements:
1-Ph.D. in a field related to public policy and governance, such as Public Policy, Public Administration, International Relations, or a related field with experience in resilience and/or infrastructure.
2-Experience in resilience-building policy and governance approaches
3-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
4-Familiarity with the Arabian Gulf region is a preferred.
