JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
An NIH-funded position is available in the Nechipurenko lab in the Department of Biology and Biotechnology at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, MA to study the role of primary cilia in neurodevelopmental disorders and stress response. Our lab uses cutting-edge biochemistry and molecular genetic tools in C. elegans and mammalian cells to investigate the molecular mechanisms of cilia assembly and the genetic basis of neurodevelopmental disorders. The successful candidate will have strong background in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or bioinformatics.

JOB DESCRIPTION

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • lead a research project, report progress, and define/track project deliverables
  • analyze and interpret research data using appropriate statistics and software
  • mentor and provide guidance to graduate and/or undergraduate students involved in the same or related research project in the lab
  • prepare research findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • present at conferences and scientific meetings
  • organize and maintain accurate records of research data, protocols, and reagents generated in the course of the project



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidates from broad backgrounds are encouraged to apply; however, PhD in Molecular/Cell/Developmental Biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry or related fields is preferred
  • a record of excellence demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations
  • strong oral and written communication skills
  • The successful candidate will be self-motivated and able to independently guide a research project
  • Bioinformatics and programming skills necessary for analysis of sequencing-based datasets are strongly preferred
