As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University is seeking a dedicated and collaborative educator to join the Department of Chemistry and Physical Sciences in Indianapolis. The department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, to begin in August 2026. Exceptional candidates from any discipline of chemistry are encouraged to apply. Expertise in either organic or forensic chemistry is particularly desired to complement existing faculty expertise within the department, though all areas of chemistry will be strongly considered.

Commitment to excellent and innovative undergraduate pedagogy is required. Primary teaching responsibilities at the outset will be split between classroom and laboratory courses in the candidate’s field of expertise and the general chemistry program. A research agenda involving undergraduate students is required. Innovative approaches to laboratory instruction would be preferable, such as inquiry-based lab methods. The University also has significant opportunity for internal collaboration with the Department of Biology, the Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the E.S. Witchger School of Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
Teach 24 credits per academic year.
Teach a variety of courses within chemistry and the general education curriculum as necessary.
Engage undergraduate students in research projects and implement research into the chemistry curriculum.
Implement an undergraduate research program in chemistry that collaborates across departments or schools.
Actively participate in curriculum development and assessment within the department.
Actively participate in faculty meetings and university service.
Mentor and advise students and supervise student research.
Share in the ongoing development and implementation of department and college activities and projects.
Exhibit leadership potential, promote academic excellence, and actively participate in the life of the campus.

Required Qualifications:

A completed Ph.D. in any area of chemistry or a related field by date of hire (August 2026).
Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence and innovation in student-centered instruction.
Proven ability to collaborate with colleagues and students of diverse backgrounds.
Potential for ongoing research, external funding, publication, and activity in professional associations.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
