One postdoctoral research position is open to conduct research in the area of laser, optical, and plasma physics for nuclear applications. The work is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy and will be conducted within the Nuclear Science User Facilities framework. Projects include close research collaborations with several U.S. national laboratories and academic groups in the U.S. and internationally.

The candidate should hold (or soon to receive) a Ph.D. degree in physics, chemistry, optics, or engineering (nuclear, electrical) and have an experimental background in optics. Of particular value is the experience with laser technology, optical spectroscopy, and plasma physics.

The postdoc will work in a highly dynamic and interdisciplinary team at the University of Michigan, Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences led by Prof. Igor Jovanovic (http://ansg.engin.umich.edu) and utilize the extensive infrastructure of the Gérard Mourou Center for Ultrafast Optical Science. The candidate is expected to have excellent communication skills needed for active supervision of graduate students, collaboration with other universities and national laboratories, and regularly present and publish research results . Funds are available to regularly attend major conferences.
