    The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) at NTU Singapore conducts fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunami, and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, toward safer and more sustainable societies.


     


    The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) invites applications for a Research Assistant (RA) position to work on topics related to tropical cyclone and sea-level change science as part of a wider project related to quantifying insurance risk for the Global Asia Insurance Partnership. The successful applicant will assist in developing and running tropical cyclone and sea-level projection statistical models and interpretation of the results on a range of temporal (historical to future) and spatial (global to regional and local) scales. They will work collectively within a multi-cultural team of international scientists at EOS and colleagues at NTU helping to produce scientific output for reports, publications, and presentations.


     


    Key responsibilities and requirements for the position of RA are outlined below and applicants should demonstrate they fulfil these in a comprehensive curriculum vitae and cover letter. The position is available for one year with the possibility of extension based on performance and salary will be commensurate with level of experience. 


     


    Key Responsibilities:




    • Run latest iteration of tropical cyclone and sea-level projection models over a range of temporal and spatial scales.




    • Collate dataset outputs and discuss/present results with colleagues.




    • Help in the writing of scientific reports and publications that present outputs from the model results.




    • Help in developing professional looking presentations for a range of scientific and non-scientific audiences.




    • Ensure projects are completed to an agreed schedule.




     


    Job Requirements:




    • Bachelor’s degree in geoscience, mathematics or statistics, civil or computer engineering, or similar related discipline.




    • Experience working with climate model and sea-level datasets and/or willingness to learn.




    • Proficient in coding and running statistical models using relevant software (e.g., R, MatLab, Python etc.).




    • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.




    • Excellent English and communication skills, both written and oral, which are essential for report writ.




    • Coding skills an advantage.
