  • Postdoctoral/doctoral Position in Biophysics
    Dept of Physics
    Ben Gurion University

We are looking for a postdoctoral/doctoral fellow to join the biophysics groups of Rony Granek and Mario Feingold in the Dept. of Biotechnology and Dept. of Physics at the Ben Gurion University. Several projects are ongoing related to bacterial division and DNA segregation. We work in close collaboration with Prof. Itzhak Fishov from the Life Sciences dept.

For experiments, we use Optical Microscopy combined with Image Processing to study the cell cycle and division process in single bacterial cells. Our methods include super-resolution, optical traps and microfluidics techniques. Our main biological aims are: 1. to find the signal that initiates cell division in bacteria, 2. to understand the nucleoid segregation.

For theory, we use advanced statistical mechanics methods together with numerical simulations to describe phenomena related to the dynamics of DNA and/or proteins.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D./Master degree in Physics or a closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates that are experienced in biophysics, optical microscopy and/or computational analysis and to those with a theoretical background.

To apply please send your CV and three references to Prof. Mario Feingold , Dept. of Physics (mario@bgu.ac.il), or to Prof. Rony Granek (rgranek@bgu.ac.il), Dept. of Biotechnology, Ben Gurion University, Beer Sheva 84105, Israel.
