    • Base Salary Level A/B $105,350 to $140,586 p.a + 17% Superannuation


    About the opportunity 


    The University of Sydney’s School of Physics is welcoming applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Theoretical Nonlinear Optics to work closely with Professor Martijn de Sterke.


    The research will be carried out in the context of the Microcomb Science and Technology theme of the newly established ARC Centre of Excellence in Optical Microcombs for Breakthrough Science (COMBS).


    You will investigate how dispersion affects the formation and properties of microcombs and will collaborate with other researchers with a variety of backgrounds, both at the University of Sydney and at other nodes of the Centre. You will also contribute to the general scientific and education activities of the Centre.


    Your key responsibilities will be to:



    • collaborate with Centre researchers at the University of Sydney and at other nodes

    • conduct theoretical research in frequency combs

    • report on research progress to Centre researchers and administrators

    • Supervise research project of postgraduate and undergraduate students

    • communicate the research results through journal articles and conference presentations

    • contribute to the general activities of the research group and of the Centre.

    • a PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics or a related subject (candidates who are near completion may also be considered)

    • a track record of high-quality research in theoretical nonlinear optics

    • demonstrated experience investigating frequency combs

    • demonstrated experience in conducting numerical simulations

    • excellent verbal and oral communications skills.

    • a track record of interacting with experimentalists

    • an interest in outreach activities.
