  • Postdoctoral or more senior research position
    Civil and Environmental Engineering
    Princeton University

A postdoctoral or more senior research position is available in the Environmental Fluid Mechanics Laboratory (http://efm.princeton.edu) of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Princeton University, in collaboration with the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The research will focus on elucidating the physics of atmospheric boundary layer flows over heterogeneous terrain using fine scale large eddy simulations, and then parametrizing these physics in the climate models of GFDL using hybrid physical and data-driven approaches. The focus will be on the marginal ice zone in polar regions, where the surface abruptly transitions between colder ice and warmer water over the fractured sea ice surface.

The postdoc will work closely with the project PI, Elie Bou-Zeid, at Princeton, as well as with Dr. Mitch Bushuk and other sea ice and climate modelers at GFDL.

Applicants from all academic backgrounds will be considered, but previous experience in numerical modeling of fluid flow, climate modeling, and/or machine learning for geophysical applications is strongly desired.

Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible; the position will remain open until filled. All applications should be submitted through https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/33161
