Since its establishment in 1992, the Stable Isotope Laboratory has been an international leader in the application of continuous flow compound specific isotope analysis. In 1992, it was one of the first laboratories to purchase the technology for continuous flow carbon isotope analysis; and in 1999, one of the first in North America to install the analytical system for high sensitivity compound specific hydrogen isotope analysis. Since 1999, the Stable Isotope Laboratory has developed and published analytical techniques for sample extraction and CSIA measurements and has been a world leader in developing the QAQC for this field.
