  • Our research group is primarily interested in designing, synthesizing, and characterizing novel functional inorganic materials for applications in energy conversion and data storage. Our research focus and interests lie at the intersection of solid state and inorganic chemistry, condensed matter physics, and materials science. We are particularly interested in rare-earth free permanent magnets, magnetocaloric, multiferroic, and thermoelectric materials. Our research aims to contribute to fundamental understanding of correlations between electronic and crystal structures and the physical properties of solid state materials. In this vein, we hope to shed light on the factors that govern the physical properties of existing and new materials and provide a methodology for the systematic improvement of their physical properties. Graduate and undergraduate students who join our group will learn a variety of synthetic and characterization techniques and also will have the opportunity to use advanced research facilities at several national laboratories.
