The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Tenure Track Assistant Professor in » Statistics and Data Science «
to begin as soon as possible. The position is a W2 fixed-term (6 year) tenure-track professorship with the possibility for promotion to a tenured W3 professorship.
Scientific Environment
The professorship will be assigned to the Department of Mathematics of the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of Statistics and Data Science. While all areas of specialization in the field will be considered, the successful candidate is expected to pursue an innovative research program focused on the development/analysis of modern statistical methodology. Teaching responsibilities include statistics courses at the Master level, as offered in the Professional Profiles “Mathematics” and “Data Science and AI” (e.g., in the Master programs “Mathematical Finance and Actuarial Science” and “Mathematics in Data Science”). Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to participate in the teaching of introductory statistics courses at the Bachelor level.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international level. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, are prerequisites.
